"Visit to Rome"

OVERALL RATING  4/5    RECOMMENDED

Mrs Lesley Pearson stayed at the Occidental Aurelia hotel in March 2015

Excellent hotel 2.4 kms from the centre of Rome. The room size and bathroom facilities are comparable to a Premier Inn. Hotel staff very helpful. Very comfortable and quiet, clean towels everyday. Breakfast was fine, no complaints but not anything special.

We would be happy to return to this hotel.

Top Tip:
We caught the local bus for 1.2 euros to the Anganina metro station and bought a 1.5 euro single ticket to Cornelia station. It was then a 10 minute easy walk to the hotel. Bus outside the hotel for the city centre which again cost 1.5 euros. We bought day passes for 7 euros as it gave us the convenience of hopping on and off the metro and buses. We arrived at St Peters and the following day at the Coliseum at 9 am and beat the queues (security checks similar to airports). Touts outside the Vatican museum tried to tell us our queue would take 90 mins and encouraged us to buy an expensive ticket to skip the queue - in reality we only waited 20 mins in queue.

Mr Charles Lawton stayed at the Occidental Aurelia hotel in March 2015

This is a good hotel spacious clean and really good value for money. The only slight downside is the length of time it takes to get into the City Centre on the bus (about 20 mins) but you can't have everything.

Top Tip:
If you are staying in Rome and sightseeing look at taking out a Roma Pass which is valid for two of the attractions in Rome (not the Vatican) and covers you on all public transport for 48 or 72 hours. It must however be booked 5 working days in advance. This can then be collected at the airport when you arrive.

I don't know what's required here!

Top Tip:
If you plan to do any travelling by public transport sort this out early as you can make your way by bus metro fairly easily if you invest a short time at the beginning of your stay to plan your route and factor in time. Very nice and comfortable to return to the hotel after a long day. Personally would have preferred a few more English speaking channels for relaxing TV but hey I was in Rome so that might be a little bit unfair!

Ms Elaine Whale stayed at the Occidental Aurelia hotel in March 2015

I can't fault this hotel. Rooms are large, well equipped, modern and with very comfortable beds. Bathroom was huge and slick. Bar in the evening is very well run by Zahid, and popular. Reception is well run. Good breakfast in the morning from the rooftop restaurant.

Top Tip:
The hotel is a little way out of the centre. A short 10 minute walk to the Metro in the morning takes you into Rome quite quickly. In the evenings we caught a taxi back to the hotel for around 12 euros. We ate at Arturo restaurant - less than 5 minutes walk from the hotel. It was excellent. We had a fine three course dinner, glass of prosecco each to start, and a 27 euro bottle of wine to follow. The bill was 90 euros with service. Very good value for an outstanding dinner.

Mr Larry Wallace stayed at the Occidental Aurelia hotel in March 2015

Very nice stay and the staff so helpful on reception and the manager was very good with a small problem with our tour bus.

Nice modern hotel just about mile and a half from the main town centre of Roma with a bus stop outside hotel but we would walk to the metro stn not far and its just 3 stops on the metro.

Yes will be back to stay at the ESH hotel .

Top Tip:
Get the 3 day travel pass for your stay that lets you get the bus, metro, tram.. Good value.

Mrs Pamela Murphy stayed at the Occidental Aurelia hotel in March 2015

We were very pleased with the hotel it was very modern and the staff were very friendly and obliging.

The rooms were modern and comfortable, the bathroom supplies were replaced on a daily basis.

We used the hotel restaurant each evening and found the food nice and the staff very helpful.

The only negative to us was that there were no tea making facilities in the rooms, but when we mentioned this on leaving they did say that had we asked they would have provided us with a kettle.

Although the hotel is away from the centre of Rome the metro is only about a 10 minute walk from the hotel and was great for getting about.

We would stay at the ESH again, and hope to do so this year.

Mr Thomas Griffiths stayed at the Occidental Aurelia hotel in March 2015

The hotel is modern and clean and the staff friendly. The breakfast selection is good and plentiful and the evening set menu quite acceptable. However, the hotel is a long way out (almost at the end of the Metro line A) and the walk to the hotel is a lot further than advertised and along a very narrow pavement which makes walking home at night quite dangerous particularly with luggage.

Top Tip:
Be prepared to pay for taxis especially late at night if you want to avoid a difficult walk

Excellent hotel. Helpful and knowledgeable staff. Good food clean and modern facilities.

Located near good public transport.

Couldn't fault anything.

Top Tip:
Nobody seems to pay on the buses and Baldo Degli Ubaldi is easiest and closest Metro station to get to NOT Cornelia as recommended by hotel.

Peter Beenham stayed at the Occidental Aurelia hotel in February 2015

This was our second trip to Rome; a lovely city that really can't all be managed in 3 days, so we returned to complete our tick list.
On both occasions we stopped at The Executive Style Hotel. It was spotless, comfortable and the staff were both helpful and friendly. The buffet style breakfast catered for all tastes. We didn't sample the evening meal there, but it was competitively priced.
The hotel is about a mile and a half from St Peter's Square, but there is a bus stop right outside the hotel and the bus goes to the underpass leading to the square.
If you want a reasonably priced break and not anxious to stay right in the centre of Rome, then I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Top Tip:
1. There is a 6 euro per person per day city tax. 2. The Hop On Hop Off bus is excellent. 3. If you want a coffee, bear in mind it will cost you around 6 euros if you want to sit down, but only 1.50 if you stand up! 4. The drivers are mad! They're impatient and drive on their brakes. They also use their mobile phones and the women apply their make up - mascara - yes really - while at the wheel! Always use the lights when crossing, but be aware that filters operate even when the green man is lit. 5.On most Wednesday mornings, the Pope holds a public audience outside St Peters. Tickets are free and are available from the Swiss Guards who stand at the gates outside the pillars of the square. 6 Not all beggars are genuine. 7. Pick pocketing is rife. Keep your money well hidden, but have a few loose coins for those beggars you feel are genuine - beware of those will small children or those showing alleged family photos.

Miss Coral Maynard stayed at the Occidental Aurelia hotel in February 2015

We emailed the hotel and arranged collection at the airport (55 Euros), quite handy if there are several of you travelling - it was hassle free and we were at the hotel in 30 mins leaving us the whole afternoon and evening to explore.
The hotel management service gave us good information on where to go, bus passes etc in perfect English. We got a 3 days travel pass which once activate allowed you to travel on buses, metro and the tram lines. The buses were regular and stop right outside the hotel giving us easy access to Vatican City and surrounding areas. The Metro was 15 mins walk or 5 mins on the bus. The hotel location was good for transport, but a little off the main track if travelling late in the evening, but that wasn't a problem as the bus stop was immediately outside the hotel.
The accommodation was excellent the room was well maintained and of high standards, didn't use the t.v much as my ipad worked perfectly.
Breakfast was okay, in general it was a good stay.

Top Tip:
We found the 3 day pass of excellent value, giving us the opportunity to see all the sights we which to visit.

Mr Anthony Derrett stayed at the Occidental Aurelia hotel in February 2015

On arriving at the hotel after booking this break three weeks earlier we were told that they were full and we will spend our first night at another hotel. They provided a taxi and gave instructions. We arrived and very thrilled as it seemed much nicer then ESH only to find they had no record of us and following a phone call it appears we had been taken to the wrong hotel. Another taxi before we finally arrived at the hotel we were to stay at (Cardinal St Peter hotel). The following day we finally checked in at the ESH. Our bags had been fetched and placed in the room. As compensation we were told we had been upgraded to an Executive room (that was part of our original package anyway), A bottle of wine was in the room and we could have full use of the mini bar. Without seeming cynical the wine would have cost a few euros and the mini bar contained a few bottles of Mineral Water and Coke Cola no alcohol drinks.
The room was nice and large and clean. Great bathroom (shower only). What lets the hotel down is the restaurant. It is located on the 4th floor and its décor can be best described as "marquee wedding theme", it is a canvass structure with metal chairs in white covers tied with a bow. These covers had not been cleaned for some time. Even at dinner the breakfast paraphernalia still present The quality of the food wasn't great. - I had lamb cutlets Rome style which means extremely well cooked to the point of being burnt. Unfortunately little alternative restaurants in the area but there is a MacDonald's close by.
As I said the Hotel was nice and staff very friendly.

Top Tip:
Eat lunch in Rome as the catering at the hotel and in the immediate area is not good.
