Diana Sharp stayed at the Vasia Beach & Spa hotel in June 2015

Have just returned from a week in this very good hotel , which we enjoyed very much . The staff are excellent and very helpful . It is situated Near Sissi harbour well away from the youngsters paradise of Malia . There is not a beach in front of the hotel only a rocky shoreline but a short stroll brings you to the picturesque bay of Sissi Harbour with a little beach .
There are several supermarkets and tavernas nearby if you fancy a change from the hotel food, which is very good, lots of choice, salads and fruit. The complimentary visit to either The Greek or Italian restaurants is worth doing, if only to have waiter service and dine on the seafront. We visited the Greek restaurant but personally I thought the food was better in the main all inclusive restaurant
Entertainment is low key, no pressure to join in. Raphael, head of animation is great fun and a real natural at his job . There didn't appear to be anything organised for children, apart from a disco hour in the evening, so I would say the hotel is more suited to adults / couples, Plenty of sun beds available even though the hotel seemed busy.
On the down side, if you have a late flight (as we did), checkout time is 12 noon and the AI finishes too! We were however able to keep a room til 6pm at a cost of 60 euros and when your flight is 11.30pm it is worth it, but does not include your AI!
Quite a long transfer if you are on a coach, I think if you are travelling with friends it would pay to do a private transfer and reduce the time to about 40 minutes, however it is a lovely area to be staying in so worth it.
I would be happy to stay at this hotel again.

A lovely hotel with friendly and helpful staff. The rooms were big and clean, equipped with mini bar and TVs. Most rooms have 2 balconies.
The staff were great and very helpful.
The food in the resturant was good with plenty of choice.
The animation team were very energetic and worked hard all day. Always something to do if you want...
The kids club was very good and opened every day.

Only down side to the hotel is that wifi is very limited and you can only get free in reception but once lots of people are on it, it's very slow.

Apart from that if you want a relaxing break in a quiet resort, then this is the place for you. I wouldn't hesitate to visit again.

Graeme Askew stayed at the Vasia Beach & Spa hotel in June 2015

I stayed at the Sentido Vasia resort along with my wife, three daughters their partners and two young grandchildren aged 3 and 18 months.
Despite arriving at the resort about 1am, a light meal and drink was prepared and served to us in the dining room which was greatly appreciated by all.
We were allocated rooms in the Vasia Island, an area outwith the main hotel complex. Despite initial reservations due to being away from the main hotel, dining etc, it was great with very much our own pool areas, sun beds etc and was well away from the noise in the main areas. Down-side was no bar area at that location but we were happy to live with that.
Rooms were immaculately kept and serviced daily. They were not 5 star as advertised but a good 3 plus and comfortable. Towels were not changed daily.
The hotel is very much a family resort with a high proportionate of parents/children so anyone looking for a quiet holiday should maybe look elsewhere.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all of the buffet variety and invariably there was something for all tastes. All things considered the presentation and standard of the food was good. Dining room staff work extremely hard, serving a drink of choice with meals. At capacity, the dining room is extremely busy and it does struggle to cope with numbers with large queues present on a few of our days there. We thought the accommodation/dining ratio was perhaps out of sync.
We used the Italian restaurant on one evening which boasts superb sea views and we couldn't fault the meal and service.
Two of my daughters used the Vasia Spa and enjoyed the experience. There was childrens entertainment every night usually followed by more adult orientated music etc.
The hotel is located very close to the edge of Sissi village which makes a nice walk with lots of good restaurants and bars.
Hotel staff were generally very friendly and helpful.
My only observation on the hotel is that it is not particularly disabled friendly re ramps etc except for the main entrance.
All in all we enjoyed the Vasia experience. It is not a 5 star resort but a good 3 plus and represented good value for money.

A very good hotel in a good location, friendly staff with good food, the icing on the cake was the choice of either Greek or Italian once a week if you are all inclusive. We dined at the Italian restaurant and had a fabulous meal. There was also some entertainment every night and during the day.

Just come back from a week here. We arrived late but was welcomed with a drink and a hot meal which was much appreciated. All the staff were very attentive and we had nothing to complain about. The room was lovely and big and very clean. We were all inclusive and found the selection of the food was excellent there was certainly plenty to choose from. Would certainly go again

Lovely hotel very friendly helpful staff. But beds were hard and the food was poor. There was lots of choice, breakfast was great but evening meals were poor never hot and not very appealing ate out on four occasions, which is not what you expect in a 5* all inclusive resort.

Top Tip:
The resort was quite away from any nice beaches, entertainment was not very sophisticated. The two a la carte restaurants were poor quality although again staff were lovely.

Fantastic hotel in a lovely location although the nearest beach is very rocky. Nearest sandy beach is about 20 minute walk away. The small town of Sissi is approx 10 minute walk and has lots of restaurants and bars. The little harbour is really beautiful.

All the staff are so friendly and helpful - nothing is too much trouble. The all inclusive drinks are disappointing - a bit watered down but the bar staff are brilliant. The food overall was good with plenty of choice.

There was a mix up with our room and we were originally allocated a room with a double bed even though we had asked for two singles, and I had made a point of telephoning to make sure this had been booked. My friend had to sleep on an uncomfortable sofa for the first night. We were moved the next day but although we were given twin beds, they were a bit lumpy and not very comfortable.

Despite a bad start we had a great time and will be returning to this hotel.

Colin Mills stayed at the Vasia Beach & Spa hotel in May 2015

The hotel was clean and tidy, the staff at the hotel were excellent. The food was much of a muchness very repetitive. The Italian restaurant was the hottest meal we had possibly because it was cooked for us. The wine at the Italian restaurant was not in the all inclusive and very expensive and not the best. Entertainment on the complex was very amateur maybe because we were at the beginning of the season and will get more polished. Why does the all inclusive stop at 11.00 pm to be replaced with expensive very weak alcoholic drinks, went to the bar over the road from the Cotton Club and you could taste the difference and they were reasonable prices.

Top Tip:
If you like tea slightly stronger than off white take your favourite tea-bags with you. Have the courage to hire a car or quad bike, we had a quad for a couple of days and it was wonderful to see parts of the island you would not normally see. 1 week is not enough.

We had a great week. The staff were amazing and couldn't do enough for us
This was a fully inclusive holiday. The food was fine and what we expected as the kitchens were catering for large numbers.
The allocated room was lovely and the bowl of fruit and the bottle of wine was a nice extra as was the water and soft drinks in the fridge.
The only bugbear was that the a/c would cease after half an hour to operate if no movement was detected, which during the day was fine but through the night was ridiculous. It was quite hot and I would wake up once the a/c went off as the room heated up again.
Sissi is a lovely village and the locals were very helpful and friendly. There is no beach, but you could get into the water in some areas.

The hotel is in a great location for a quiet holiday. The small port is just a short walk away and there are lots of coffee/bars to have a drink. There are also restaurants but we ate in the hotel all week. You can also walk to a small beach which is okay. The food is good and there is a choice for every meal. It is all buffet service except the Italian and Greek restaurants.
Our superior room was lovely though the shower wasn't great. We didn't see much of the entertainment but that was our choice. The staff in the hotel were excellent. Overall a great holiday and good for a Greek 5*.

Allan Gilmour stayed at the Vasia Beach & Spa hotel in May 2015

This hotel is one of the better all-inclusive options around. The staff are friendly, as friendly as they can be when working as hard as they do.

The general areas of the hotel are kept very clean. The pool area is swept and mopped every day and every where else is multiple times.

Accommodation: We had a deluxe room near the pool and main building. The room was very spacious, with a lounge area which was directly off the entrance door. A large bathroom with bath and free standing shower. Water escaped from the shower depending on how you angle the head, it escapes through the gap between the wall and the door, a small strip in this area would prevent the worst of this escape.

There is a small fridge with an ice compartment, which failed to make ice, but nevertheless chilled the drinks. A selection of soft drinks and water were provided. A small kettle is provided, which is adequate for two cups, some tea and coffee is also supplied.

The air con in our room was inefficient and could probably do with a recharge. It was fairly hot at times and it struggled to cool the room. In high season it would be as effective as waving a paper fan
The balcony\terrace was very narrow and had a high wall, but we could still see over this for a sea view and had a side view of the pool.

Pools: The pools are not very large, but were never too busy so were fit for purpose. There is another pool by the snack bar, so options as to where to go. Plenty of sun loungers and no reserving at silly o'clock. We got the same position every day at around 8 a.m. when we placed our towels down on the way to breakfast and then came back to relax on them whilst breakfast settled and we listened to the birds singing before the masses descended. There always seemed to be loungers available for those who arrived later, including mid-day. There is no beach near the hotel, so the pools will be in high demand in the high season.

Food: The food is generally of a good standard in the main restaurant. I only had one occasion where I could not eat some of what I had selected. There are numerous choices, so anyone stating they could not find something to eat would be overly fussy.

The negative was the Italian restaurant and was our biggest complaint against the hotel. Given the standard in the main restaurant, we expected high standards, but were let down from the off. Almost every where in the hotel is kept clean, but the glass tops on the tables at Bar 69 were covered in sea salt and bird poo. The seats at the restaurant were falling apart, mine and at least 2 others broke in use.(Although they had replaced all seats prior to us leaving). As you only get one opportunity at one of the restaurants per week of stay, we can only mention the positive comments on the Pelagos restaurant from other guests. Our experience of the Italian was like a visit to Fawlty Towers.

It is not a la carte, as you can only select a main and a dessert, from a selection of Italian Beef burger, a Chicken dish or a selection from 4 pizza offerings, the desserts are only 2 offerings. The starter is both Risotto and a pasta dish. We cannot comment on the quality, as we were given a bread basket and dips and were then left for an hour without the starter. Our appetites had waned when they finally realised this and we chose to skip the starter and have the main. This was another disaster: The Pizza was undercooked with a soggy mess in the middle. It should have been a Diavola, but had what looked like hot pepper sauce splattered over salami. The Chicken dish I opted for had a pureed broccoli base (very bland and cold), a pre-cooked and re-heated chicken breast, which was very dry and cold except on the extremities and was topped off with American Burger Mustard, or at least that is what it tasted like. There was also a Prawn and Avacado Insalata, which I dared not touch. I was concerned about food poisoning given the standard with the rest of it. Needless to say, having waited an hour and having to skip the starter, this was a complete let down and we left after taking 2 bites.

Given the standards elsewhere in the hotel, the Italian restaurant seriously lets it down and they need to review whether to continue offering this or to get the standard to an acceptable level. We spoke with 4 other couples who had the same experience.

Beverages: Standard offering on beverages, with reduced alcohol levels all round, except the wine. We drink for enjoyment, so the volume of alcohol did not bother us. There are some cocktails included and these are quite good. The soft drinks are from syrup, but are not sickly sweet that you can get in some all-inclusive deals. Down side is that the lobby bar does not open until 6 p.m. so you have to get a drink from the pool bar in a plastic cup if you want one before this.

Overall, a good hotel, with friendly staff and generally good standards in food and beverage. Some improvements needed, but most are minor. But the big failing point is the Italian restaurant.

Top Tip:
Visit the Menios Taverna in town. Turn right up the main road, instead of left towards the harbour. Excellent food at a great price.

We had a brilliant holiday at the Vasia - we can't ever remember being in an hotel where the staff were so friendly and professional! 11 out of 10!
We think the entertainment could have room for improvement but bearing in mind the overall age of the guests I think they tried very hard.
A special mention must go to Christina the dining room Maitre d'e who was absolutely charming. After just one visit she not only remembered our room number but our names as well!

My wife and I have just returned from a week at the Vasia Beach Hotel and overall, what a great experience. The resort itself is very clean, the pools immaculate, rooms, well finished and furnished with excellent, comfortable beds.
The food was also very good, varied, fresh and always something that caught the eye. The Mediterranean Restaurant was a little disappointing, not a lot more than a reasonable pizza but ok (and the sun set view was perfect).
Probably the best feature of the Vasia was the staff. I have never met so many smiling, friendly staff at a hotel in my life, bar staff, reception, food and even food reception were absolutely superb and made the holiday. Ever helpful, they were a real pleasure throughout.
The gym was also very well equipped although air conditioning would have been a benefit though, it was like a sauna!
Definitely a resort we will return to.

The hotel was lovely and clean, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was generally good. The drinks were all local brands and we're not very good but we paid a good price for the holiday and prefer a clean hotel and poor drinks to a dirty hotel and great drinks!
We did not arrive until around 11pm and the hotel had a hot meal waiting for us but on our last day the all inclusive package finished at 12 noon which didn't seem fair. To keep the room for an extra 4 hours until 4pm was €30 Euros and to keep it until 6pm and extra €60 Euros.
Sissi is only a 10 min walk and a taxi back will cost you 5 Euros as it is up hill on the way back and we couldn't manage it with my dad's wheelchair.

Gillian Rann stayed at the Vasia Beach & Spa hotel in April 2015

Very clean, well laid out with pleasant and helpful staff. Excellent, wide choice at all buffet meals - only one or two dishes below par.
We were upgraded so had a large lounge as well a bedroom & bathroom (excellent shower), but the lounge was not terribly useful, as the only television was in the bedroom! Also, as is often the case, only two English speaking news channels.
Position of hotel is good - it's extensive site ends at the sea front and there is easy walking along there. But it is not possible to swim in the sea there as it's very rocky. The hotel offers a shuttle service to a beach about a mile away, but at the beginning of the season and after a very bad winter, this beach was officially "not open". However, I was taken to it after being warned of it's state - it was a real mess. But being determined, I was able to swim there and found it was possible to walk along the cliff top & through the village back to the hotel - about 30-40 mins. The hotel has a number of clean and tidy swimming pools of various sizes.
There are a few shops and small supermarkets just outside the hotel and Sissi village is a pleasant 10-15 minute stroll along the road, although there is a short, steep hill and no pavements.
There are taxis in the village, but public transport is a couple of miles away at the main road.
Main problem, however, was general state of outside maintenance - lots of uneven walkways / paths / pool surrounds. Alongside size of main seating area in the lobby, I would not class this as 5 star - but is good value and I would go again.

Top Tip:
If you want to get around the island you will need to rent a car because no public transport near. Alcohol served as part of all inclusive is poor although freely available. Nothing tastes to usual standards & don't expect to get drunk! Two computers for guest use in the lobby area, and this is the only place wifi available. Hence, every seat is usually taken - would imagine this could cause problems in the middle of the season.

We were at the Sentido Vasia Beach Hotel & Spa from April 22-29 2015 which we had not realised was in -between seasons with the local shops just preparing for the tourist season, staring May 1. This has advantages and disadvantages, depending on why one goes on holiday.
Cleanliness, service, staff attitude and food variety and quality were excellent, so much so that we were loathe to be away too much for fear of missing the meals! A nice touch was the provision of a hot meal on arrival at midnight, particularly welcome if travelling on a no-frills airline!
We like walking and travelling around the locality by local buses; here we would have to mark down the hotel as also the time of the year. Usually staff can advise and provide maps of suggested walks in the area but we were provided with only one suggested walk on asking; because the tourist season had not really started, there was a fair amount of confusion as to what buses ran from where and when. During our visit there was little local transport; we were faced with either using local (quite expensive) taxis or walking 40 mins slightly uphill to the main road from where buses went every hour but no timetable was available to indicate at what times!
It should be noted that the immediate beach is rocky and one has to travel a little distance to sandy beaches; again, hopefully because we were just out of season, tourist rubbish was widespread on the beaches and washed up on rocks, but not as mentioned at the hotel which was spotless.
One disappointment for us was the non-availability of an inside swimming pool which we had thought we had noted on the hotel description before hand; the internal pool is part of the Spa facility and available at something like 30 euros; during our time, the weather was getting warmer allowing use of any of the 5 outdoor pools once they had warmed in the sun
Very good WiFi reception on the 2 freely available points in the hotel reception but not so good in the rooms.
Whilst we are not 'clubbers' we would have appreciated some local culture in the evening events but found only 2 live events during our week, the rest being DIY sessions, again probably because we were out of season.

We have had a lovely relaxing time at Vassia Beach. Although classified as a 5* I would say it is more 3*. However, I don't mean any disrespect to this hotel; it's clean and comfortable. The buffet food is interesting and plentiful, although the atmosphere in the restaurant itself is a bit lacking. This is understandable because of the huge number of guests it caters for. The speciality Greek and Italian restaurants made a welcome change to the buffet, more for the intimate atmosphere than the food. It's a pity that the Blue Bar isn't all inclusive, it's a lovely bar in a great location but no one went there as drinks had to be paid for.

There are plenty of sunbeds so no need to fight. The staff is this hotels biggest asset. They were so friendly and helpful (special thanks to Elsa in Reception. George, Anka and Emanuelle in bar/restaurant). The hotel is a short walking distance to the town of Sissi where there are interesting bars and restaurants if you fancy a change. There are local buses to Agios Nicholaus (market day Wednesday) and Iraklion.
